RUATOKI ROADING
NATIVE DEPARTMENT'S INFORMATION REPORT ON PRESENT CONDITION la connection with the proposed scheme for the roading in Ruatoki to be taken bver by the County Council a report on the present condition of the roads was submitted by Messrs Mcrritt and Wilkinson representing the Native Department. The report stated as follows: — 1. All roads are formed to permanent levels. 2. Depth of metalling varies, from 4 to 6 inches. Approximately 1.5 miles, of roads would, require to be metalled. 3. All wooden culverts would require to be renewed. A sketch map was also included showing the dimensions etc. of bridges and culverts in the - area. 1 The council was asked to indicate what work would be carried out in r the Ruatoki settlements in the event 1 of an annual payment being arranged, as the matter would ally have to be discussed with the Ruatoki Natives; and an indication of what benefits would accrue to them for any liability they would be required to assume given. The schedule indicated on the plan gave the following information:— Length of metalled roads, ldC8 ! chains. Length of formed roads, 470 chains. Length of unformed roads 1211 chains. ' No. of concrete bridges 1. No. of wooden bridges (8' to 14') 10. No. of wooden culverts 17. No. of 4' concrete culverts 1. i No. of 3' concrete culverts 15. i No. of 2' concrete culverts 2. No. of 6" concrete culverts 1. The council resolved that Cr McGougan and the County Engineer inspect the area, and that the County Engineer report: (1) The estimated cost of bringing all roads; up to County standard, and (2) The estimated annual cost of the maintenance of such roads.
