BATTLE AHOY!

CARRIERS v STOCK AGENTS 1 'ONCE MORE UNTO THE BREACH—' e Whakatane: July 10. 10.1 a.m. *a r Special Bulletin* 1 A Special last-mi nijte Despatch t from the Beacon News Agency, (to which Reuter's is second only) re- * ceived by carrier pigeon from the ' Association for Rafferty Rugby ' states: — "On the Football Front activities 9 are approaching a fresh climax similar to the one which' rocked the community about this time last year. Insulting messages from the Hairy Fairies have been, received by the ' Hilly Billies to the effect that if the latter can summon up sufficient courage, they will condescend to play them once again in football.

Tally Ho! Yes folks, it looks like the battle for supremacy is on once again, for rumour hath it that the Hilly Billies (Stock and Station to the uninitiated) have taken 'up the gauntlet hurled down by the Hairy Fairies (our local band of big brawny burly Carriers) and intend proving that the Hilly Billy knees are not of the milk and water type which knock consistently. Last year it will be remembered * an awsome and ferocious battle was fought out to the last man on the ! football field. The carriers were victorious but this time the Stock j 9 Agents intend that the last man standing shall be a Hilly Billy. The teams intend this time to supply their own ambulance service, as last year the St. John men were worn to frazzle through working like T ro<jans to repair the wounded and return them to the fray. Dr. Gillespie, we' understand w r ill attend solely for the purpose of ( performing amputations. Although as yet no date'has been set for the fray ? we hear that both teams, but the Hilly Billies in parare in the throes of training having extracted a number of players from the Veterans' Home where they retired to die after the last match.

The Hairy Faries, with malicc towards none (but the Hilly Billies) are maintaining an outward display of calmness confidence an,d nonchalence. and are already in their minds eye spilling Hilly Billy blood over the turf. But! /Ssh —keep it under your hat!) The Hilly Billies have a secret, weapon which we dare not expose at the moment lest the Hairies commit Hara Kiri rather than face it.

Yes its certainly going to be 'some brawl' (as the Yanks would say) and in the meantime we can assure you that plenty of space will be given for reviews previews j and other peoples' views as to the very latest developments for the general edification of l'ooty fans.
