THE PRICE OF DEMOCRACY
THE spectacle of the great Churchill, the man who saved Britain in the critical days of 1940, being booed and derided on the electoral hustings of metropolitan England, must come as a surprise to any nation other than those which understand the peculiarities of the democratic set-up. To v a totalitarian people such behaviour would be unheard of, whilst tp a straight-out dictatorship it would, not be tolerat ed. And yet we hear of this great Englishman, taking the whole demonstration in typiical sporting manner, goodtemperedly throwing back the gibes, and openly expressing himself as willing to abide by the will of the majority completely. In other words, our war-time leader knows a'll the rules of the game as far as democracy is concerned, and no one possibly has a better background from which to draw his ample toleration and his complete indifference to thoughtless personalities indulged in by his opponents.,
