WORK FOR THE MONTH |; " I JUNE MEETING REVIEW , I The monthly meeting of the V. hi>„katane branch of the N.Z. Red Cross Society was, held in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday ? June 12 at 2 p.m., with Mr* W. Sullivan in the chair. Mrs Sullivan informed the meet- < ing that the Fireside Suite had been - avoii by Mr C. C. Bridger Avith ticket 131. V.A.D.: Mrs Prideaux reported that the -shop held by the V.A.® recently had raised. £(50 2s 2id, Hundreds of garments had been made and a lot of work done by the girls. Home Nursing classes Avere held on Wednesday afternoons for Junior Red Cross members, and also on Wednesday nights. Regular iort* nightly meetings Avere held, and the recent Church Parade had been well attended. Mrs K. Armstrong had agreed to take the office ol ComI mandant. Lady Gal way Guild: Mrs Moran said she had quite a number of garments on hand and hoped to despatch some shortly. Mrs Sullivan stated that at a recent meeting of the Patriotic Zone Committee high praise had been given to Mrs Moran for the marvellous "work of the Guild. Knitting Circle: Mrs Timbs gave a list of garments despatched. They Averc—Red Cross 2 long sleeved pull- | overs. 7 scarves, 4. pairs socks. 2 sleeveless pullovers. 1 balaclava: and for Patriotic 2 pairs mittens, 2.1 balaclavas. 4 sleeveless pullovers- and 18 scarves. A letter to Mrs Timbs Avas read thanking her for a parcel received by a soldiei in. ltal\ Comforts: Mrs. Shapley said her committee had packed 92 parcels, and made and despatched G hussiis. Sewing for Relief of Distress: Mrs Sullivan stated that arrangements had been made for cutting out material. There was an urgent need for sewers, and it .is hoped that those Avho'are Avilling to make up one or more garments, will offer to assist. There is an urgent need lor
this clothing. The meeting decided to adopt Mrs Morcam's. .suggestion re donating a collection of tinned food for Rritisi civilians. Those present would ask j'or and the Press woulc he asked to 'publicise the appeal. The appeal would close on July 11 and donations up to that date could be left at the Red Cross shop. A special shop (lav for receiving dona- . tions and raising funds, for same . would be held on Friday, July (>. • This concluded the meeting.
