MAIZE SALES
m • CONTROL BY MARKETING COMMITTEE PENALTIES FOR BREACHES At a meeting of the Maize Marketing Committee held in Gisborne on Thursday last, the attention of the committee was drawn to the fact that a considerable amount of "black marketing" of maize was reported to be. taking place in some of the growing districts. The committee that possibly some of these sales in contravention of the were due to growers' ignorance of the fact that all 4 maize, whether sold on the cob, or shelled is under the direction of the Maize Marketing Committer whose secretary is Mr Geo. Lockwood P.O. Box 29 Gisborne and 9 9 from whom consent of the committee must be obtained before any maize, is sold. These regulations were introduced to ensure that such maize as is available is fairly and evenly distributed to all consumers throughout New Zealand, and heavy penalties are provided for any breaches thereof. Not only do such sales prevent the fair distribution of the maize crop to all concerned, but the growr er forfeits the Government subsidy which for this j r car's crop is 1/- per bushel and which is only payable when sales authorised by the committee. The committee desires to draw attention to the fact that penalties are. provided for any breach of the regulations by both l)uyer and seller.
