R.S.A.

LOCAL EXECUTIVE MEETS A meeting of the Executive of the Whakatane Returned Services' Association itook place in the Whakatane Borough Council Chambers on June 15, Mr Les. Brown presiding over an attendance of fifteen members. The business transacted was varied and general, special attention being given to the rehabilitation of Returned Servicemen and Women. After considerable discussion a small committee was formed for the purpose of ascertaining from those concerned when, they returned, what sphere;" ; Qf life they wished to settle into,. and the committee would, endeavour to assist- them to get settled into some, farm, business or congenial occupation, it was also stressed tiiat members should at all times advise the newly returned men tQ contact the R ..S. A. with their problems, and obtain .the. advice which is always willingly and. freely given. Various pension matters were dealt with and the secretary -advised that at all times he could: gefc satisfaction from the Pensions Department on cases which he seiids forward. Any man that encounters difficulties should contact the sec--9 retary without delay, as the longer these matters are held over the more difficult is it to get satisfaction. Considerable discussion, took place on the settlement, of Galatea Estate ? and from information received it 5 was felt by the committee that the sections at Galatea would be excel-, lent propositions and that any man fortunate enough to draw one in the ballot which was about to take 9 place, could not go wrong, provided that he settled down to good solid farming. Galatea is one of the best productive areas in the whole of the district, and no man should have any difficulty on a farm there. It Avas decided to hold a 'Smoko' .sometime in August and that Returned Service Women be invited to participate. A date Avill lie linally selected and. all members will be notified. j The Dominion Conference is now being held in Wellington when the matters concerning Rehabilitation and Pensions will be dealt with. Mr? Les Lux ton and Mr' T. Mac ken have proceeded to Wellington as delegates from this branch.
