AN APPEAL
POLISH REFUGEE CHILDREN r"TWENTY PAIRS OF SOCKS We have received, a letter from "the Organiser for the Eastern Bay of Plenty Junior Red Cross Society j which organisation is concerned with its prospective quota of the Polish .Refugee Camp at Paliiatua. It will interest readers who did not know previously to learn that the Red Cross Society accepted the responsibility and guaranteed replacements of clothing for the children in the camp } and that all small-er-articles such as hair ribbons ? handkerchiefs and socks will be lownd-by the Junior groups. The Eastern Bay of Plenty Juniors have this year undertaken to finil fifty boys and fifty girls handJcercliiefs j fifty hair ribbons and twenty pairs of socks suitable for ; girls of ten years. No trouble has been experienced in finding the handkerchiefs but the hair ribbons and socks present something of a problem. It is realised by the branch that there must be many such articles in homes, where the wearers have outgrown them, and they are therefore of no further use. In .such instances the Junior Branch appeals to parents to make them over for use by the little Polish girls who are the guests of the Dominion. Articles could be left at the Red Cross shop or with members and will be gratefully received. A letter recently received from the Camp Authorities expresses, the deepest thanks for the oft or.s from this district to accommodate children for the school holidays but as there was still the prospect of the language problem the otter has been held over until a later period when the children will be. more accommodated to their new lan'd.
