Competition Winners Following are the results of competitions held under the auspices of the Ngati Pukeko Gymkhana Committee: Potatoes and pumpkins, Mrs G. Kelly; hamper, Nick Tominika; £5, J. Heremia. Opening Dance The lir.st dance to be held by the new Awakeri Basketball Club takes place in the Awakeri Hall on Tuesday June 12. The Premier Dance Band' lias been engaged for. the occasion and what with numerous novelties and a home-made supper, the night should prove attractive to dancers from all parts of the district. Judgment for Plaintiff In the Whakatane Magistrate's Court sitting last. Tuesday, B. Magee was given judgment against Alec Anderson for £7 15s 7d with costs £1 18s fid. Similarly Donovan and " * Howard were given judgment against G. Pritchard for the sum of £6 14s 6d, of which one pound had already been paid. An order was made for the remaining £5 14s fkl to be paid at the rate of £1 per month. "Going My Way" • Picture fans Avill be pleased to hear that the picture "Going My Way" which aroused so much inters est in Auckland where it was seen by over a hundred and twenty thousand spectators has been booked by the management of the Regent The[atre for August 11, 13 and 14. This is perhaps one of the best pictures which has ever been released in New I Zealand. Bing Crosby, it will be remembered, plays the title role of | the priest. Work on St. John Hall The building of the St. John Hall in King Street is progressing apace. I All* the work is being done voluntarily and quite surprising speed is being shown in the erection of the place. On Monday, when over twenty-four men including a number of experienced carpenters were on the job, the roof was put on, and the window and door frames inserted. At the present rate it should not be very long before the building is complete, and the Association will have a headquarters of its own.

Accident on Wharf Injuries of a serious nature were suffered by Roy Dodd, a wharf labourer, last week when an accident occurred during loading. A sling containing two benzine drums which was being lifted slipped. One of the drums fell'out and dropped, but fortunately it did not descend directly on the man concerned. As, it fell,) it struck some other cargo first, and) toppled over. The St. John Ambulance was quickly on the scene and the injured man, who was attended by Dr. Maalca was removed to the Whakatane Hospital. He is reported to be progressing satisfactorily.
