Mr and Mrs M. W. King, Waimana, are at present on holiday in Auckland. Miss M. M. Reekie has been appointed hon. secretary of the Edgecumbe Patriotic Committee. Friends of Mr C. Griffiths, of Whakatane will regret to hear that he is seriously ill in the Waihou Bay hostel. A report has come through that L. Sgt. R. J. Booth of has been awarded the Military Medal. We extend our congratulations. Pending the appointment of a successor to Mr F. Patience, Col. A. B. Charters C.M.G. D.5.0., Y.D. 'i » > 5 M.A., J.P., of Wellington is acting headmaster at the Edgecumbe school. Miss L. R. Harris who until re- • i cently was on the staff of the. Whakatane Hospital left last week to take up a Government appointment as a nursing sister at Niue Island in the north east of New Zealand. News has been received that the Rev. K. J. Watson C.F. ?1 is now safe in England. The Rev. Watson f as many local residents will remember, was the Presbyterian Minister in Whakatane. some five years ago ? and had many connections in the field of sport in the district. His home is at present, in Auckland. Miss Jenifer and Miss Jill Otterburn whose home is at Birkenhead, 9 and who have for the past five years been residing in Whakar tane with Mr and Mrs S. Whitworth of Louvain set out to return to England today. They are being escorted on the first stage of their journey to Auckland by Mr and Airs Whitworth.
