Native Land Court The Native Land Court, presided over by Judge Harvey, commences sittings at W'hakatane next Tuesday. Waimana Victory Loan The amount allotted to Waimana to subscribe to the Victory Loan is £5500 and £278(1 has been collected to date. First Aid Classes As advertised today the St. John Ambulance Association are starting First Aid Classes, in July, intending candidates are requested to hand in their names to Messrs A. J. Canning or E. 11. Dillicar. Edgecumbe Shop Day The Edgecumbe Sub-Centre of the Red Cross, held a very successful shop day on May 23. The winners of the raffles were: Dress d rooster, Mrs Dixon; 1-1 • Co. Dinner Mrs H. Man- ! awahe. I King's Birthday Tournament A new departure for the Whakatane Golf Club will be the holding of a ladies' tournament on Sunday and Monday, June 3 and -4. This will represent the first time, that such a tournament has been held, but it is hoped that if the response is as good as is expected, it will become a regular annual feature. Van Capsizes An acicdent occurred recently when a light delivery van proceeding along Railway Road, West ? developed a steering fault, left the road and capsized. Fortunately the vehicle was not travelling fast at the time and the. driver had a miraculous escape. The van received some damage. Footpaths at Cemetery The Borough Foreman-Engineer, Mr W. S. Henderson reports that the work of laying concrete, footpaths at the Whakatane Hill Cemetery is now in hand and is progressing rapidly. Men have been on the job for the pdfet fortnight or so and the work, when completed should make an excellent improvement to the site.
