WHAKATANE BOWLERS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING PRESIDENT'S REPORT The Annual General Meeting of the Whakatane Bowling Club was held i<n the County Council Chambers last Saturday evening a good attendance being present. A resume of the 1944-45 season showed thait this had been an entirely successful one } an|d that the club's financial position was in splendid shape. The election of officers took place, and resulted as follows:— « Patron: Mr W. Sullivan, IVLP. President: Mr W. Henderson. Vice-President: Mr P, Dixon. Secretary: Mr S. J. McKenzie. Treasurer: Cr C. Pearson. Green Superintendent: Mr J. Creeke. Ground Committee: Mr W. HoAvat an,d Mr C. Loane. Committee: Messrs R. West A. Carling H. L. Drube J. J. Francis > T 9 J. Wilson. Handicapper and Selector: Mr L. Littlejohn. Auditor: Mr H. G. Warren. Coach: Mr R. Murphy. Delegates to Centre: President Vice-President and Secretary. In presenting his annual the President Mr L. Littlejohn, said :— "It gives me much pleasure to present to you my annual report for the season just completed because it has, in my opinion, justified early hopes in every respect financially and otherwise. ''Competitions were again popular and keen and were thoroughly enjoyed by those competing. No really untoward happening occurred and generally speaking they went off without any major hitch. Your committee decided not to hold a Handicap Singles Competition as t in their opinion too much time was needed to find the winner and more important games suffered in consequence. However your new committee may hold a different viewpoint and re instate these games*. "In congratulating all winners, special praise must go to our Singles Champion, Mr R. Murphy, who carried on with the good work bringing the Champion of Champions Cup back to the Club after a very interesting game with the Western Bay of Plenty Zone winner Mr L. Manning. Other winners were: Championship Pairs L. Luxton and W. Henderson. Junior Championship: P. Smoljian. "Tournaments were well up to the standard of previous years both in regard to attendance and number the weather being particularly kind on all occasions resulting in a very favourable financial gain to the club. You will notice that the balance sheet shows less profit this year than last } the explanation being that we altered the procedure inasmuch as we paid all trophies included and credited tournaments with the nett amount whereas- in the past, trophies have come under the heading of prize monies. - This applied to the Easter Tournament also and you should know, whilst on this subject, that we kept the financial side of these functions entirely separate from any side lines. These were quite remunerative and were kept apart because next year you may not see fit to conduct them and in such case financial comparisons would be of little use and entirely misleading. "Tl\e trip to Opotiki, to <| mpete in the Ferguson and Forbes Cups was made by our Singles Champion: anil the following rink M. Martin lead L. Berg No. 2 W. Baxter No. W. Howat skip. This team 1 won the Forbes Cup and our representative was runner-up in the games for the Ferguson (kip "The club's executive team was also successful, winning, firstly the Eastern Zone play, then the final against the Western Zone, "Winners played at Te Puke Mr W. Howat again being skip and as previously mentioned, our Club Champion also won the Champion of Champions Cup. It will be seen from the foregoing that our club has more than held its own in competitions this past season. "Shield matches with Taneatua (Continued in noxt' column)
