WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT TANEATUA
The monthly meeting of tlie Taneatua Women's Institute was held in the Taneatua Hall on May 8 ; Mrs Gardner presiding. There was not a large attendance owing to two mem- J bers being in hospital, and several others away on holiday. The meeting opened with tlie singing of the Ode to Friendship, and the Aspirations read by Mrs Fogartv. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and correspondence dealt Avith. The latter included an invitation to the AV.D.F.U. birthday, and the results of the competitions in the recent Eisteddfod. It was decided to hold a Children's Fancy Dress Ball at the beginning of Aug us the proceeds to lie donated to the Taneatua School Tennis Court Fund. Mrs Gardner read an interesting Golden Thread talk on the present living conditions of the people ol Malta. The roll call "A verse about Mother," was well responded to, some lovely little verses being read. A sketch "Tilly's Boy" was read by members of the Drama Circle, and caused much amusement. The cast was: Tilly Mrs Merrie; Grace, Mrs Ivnowles; Maudie, Mrs Gardner. Results of competitions were: A, A gift for mother: Mrs Kempton 1; Mrs Merrie 2. B, A patched garment: No entries. C s Best white flower: M>rs Kempton 1; Mrs Fitchett. After an enjoyable afternoon tea, served by the hostesses*, Mesdames Knowles, Oden Fogartv and Merrie, the meeting closed with tlie National Anthem. I
