A NOVEL INTERLUDE
VISITING CARNIVAL COMPANY
An interesting attraction over the week-end was the Carnival Company which left this morning for Opotiki. The show was well supported on Friday and Saturday by the 1 general üblic s while on Saturday evening, *450 Scouts present for the ralij' which was held were entertained. The tricks performed were mainly light and'amusing and included card and novelty turns. The main feature was perhaps, the 'Girl and the Rope Trick' which was as mystifying as it was spectacular. A girl lay full length on a couch; one end of a short length of heavy rope was placed beneath her body and at the given word, she rose into the air apparently stretched horizontally across the end of the rope with no- ' thing else supporting her. The rope was then made to dro|D away and the gii'l remained four to live feet above the lloor for a few seconds' before slowly descending to rest again in the couch. No wires strings or supports of any description were visible. Spectators and still are ? simply seething with ideas, mostly of a highly impractical nature as to how the trick wa& worked. Margo himself stated that he paid £400 for the idea alone, so we are not expecting any free help or advice from him. Altogether the whole show was very successful and supplied a new form of diversion which is apparently popular with residents of this town.
