INSTITUTE MEETING
The M«y meeting of the Waimana Women's Institute was held last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall there was a very good attendance of members and several visitors'. The singing of the Institute song opened the meeting. Mrs F. Savage o lie red to write to Mrs Clark, an invalid member and Mrs John Addison, who is absent from Waimana. It was decided to hold a dance on the 17tin to raise funds for soldiers' parcels and the Institute. The roll "My First Memory of this District" proved very interesting and educational. Mrs Stevenson gave a full report of the annual Federation meeting which was held at Opotiki in April. A much enjoyed sketchy entitled "No Laughing Matter" was presented by a number of the Drama Circle members; the item being greatly appreciated. After afternoon tea } Mrs. Wylde t on behalf ol' the members presented beautiful bouquets of flowers and gilts to three members who are leav- «=> * ing Waimana shortly. They were Mrs T. W. Wardlaw ? Miss- Mavis Wardiaw and Mrs Gallagher. Mrs Wyldc stated how sorry all were to be losing such staunch members from the Institute as all had been •? members for a great number of years and whenever a job was given to them to do it was always done well. The speaker wished them every success in their new homes. The guests each in turn, thankcid al: for the bouquets and gifts, which were greatly appreciated, and they ' would take with them many happy memories of the years lived in Waimana. The gathering then sang "For They Are Jolly Good Fel-i lows." The day's competitions were well entered into and the results are as follows: Best double flower Miss F. Wool field 1; Mrs Woolfield 2; Mrs F. Beil 3. Best single ilowcr Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs Bell 2; Mrs Sava'ge 3, Best bar home-made soap Mrs I. Savage 1; Mrs F. Savage 2; Mrs Wylde Best collection of six vegetables; MrsF. Bell 1; Mrs R. White 2; Mrs Hewitt Ji. Best vegetable Mrs M.. King 1; Mrs 1. Savage 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. The president thanked the hostesses and Mrs Robinson and Mrs Mclvor who acted as judges for the competitions also the Drama Circle for the sketch. The meeting»closed with all singing "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.
