THE RECENT BOOK DRIVE

IT is amazing the type of literature which some well intentioned persons think is perfectly suitable for front-line; men to read. The recent book drive conducted in Whakatane in the interests of the Patriotic Authorities /was a revelation in this respect. According to the sorter, of the 3 large bags collected, two comprised litreature which was quite unsuitable. Some residents thought Women's Journals, pattern books and recipe books quite in line with what was wanted. Others supplied comic cuts, thrillers and mystery murders, whilst others again simply treated the drive as a, means of g-etting rid of their rubbish. The committee hopes for better in future.
