ANNUAL MEETING

OTAKIRI PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE

REPORTS AND ELECTION OF

OFFICERS

The annual meeting of the above committee was held on April 27 in the Otakiri Hall. Mr W. Murray presiding over a good attendance of residents. Several apologies were received. Mrs Treasurer presented the balance, sheet for th£ year which j showed very satisfactory progress toward the attainment of the current year's quota which closes on September .'S(J. The Chairman in his report thanked members for their continued efforts and pointed "out that iL took grit and determination to face up to the various difficulties encountered in the Avork of raising money over a number of years. The district's quota had been filled on every oc-j easion and though the coming yearwould perhaps be more difficult, owjing to a larger amount being allothe knew the area would reach its. objective. He also spoke of the lessons learnt regarding expectation of victory too soon and asked that the committee be formed with a view to combining for the full year or longer.

The ladies were given, special thanks j'or their untiring efforts. Mr Murray also gave a short resume of his work as district representative to the Zone Committee. Short reports from sub-committees on their year's work were as "follows:— Collecting Committee: The financial statement showed that the members oi this committee had given much valuable time and energj- to the collection ol' money and were responsible for the larger portion of funds raised for Patriotic. Thanks were expressed to those residents who had so willingly co-operated throughout the war years and regrets expressed that there were those who sti:l refused to lighten the burden ol the boys overseas in any way. Social Committee: Mrs Tickner reported that the funds raised this 3 : ear were, an increase on previous years' totals'. Dances were held each month and the various competitions proved most successful. Special thanks were accorded to Mrs

King who was continuing to support the committee, so ably with her monthly gift of a beautifully iced cake. That the sum of £.T2 17s Gd hail so far been raised from this avenue tcstilied to its popularity. Wool Committee: A report was received from Mrs Winters on the knitting forwarded from the area, showing that busy women still continued to give valuable time to this much needed work. Parcels Committee: The convener reported ()0 parcels packed for Patriotic while a further number were packed and forwarded from the residents for boys as a Christmas gift, the Women's Institute' having donated £1,1 towards the cost of thcseWelfare Committee: Mr Murray explained that the purpose of this committee was to give assistance to returned men in the district and while tlicy felt they had not functioned as largely a s at first thought the fact that they had functioned at all justified the existence of the committee. Mr Dunning a member of this commit supported Mr Murray's statement.

Election of Officers The following committee was then appointed:— General Committee: Chairman Mr W. Murray (re-elected); Secretary Mrs Tickner; Treasurer, Mrs Cris' tall; Committee, Mesdames Lord, Armstrong, Mayo ? Peek Mi.s>:cn Smithy Mackerel!, Cobden, Woods Winters, Murray, Messrs Lord, Armstrong CI ilberi Dunning Lee CristJill, Everett, Peek, Missen Leslie Cobden, Woods Winters' Koote, Wallace , O'Brien,' Ashton' Larlou and Bryant. Air Murray "was re-elected district representative to the Zone Committee and Mrs Annstrong Press Correspondent. Collecting Committee: Convenor Mr Murray; Secretary Treasurer: Mrs \Y . Murray; Committee, Messrs Lord ? Woods, Winters, Cobden and Mrs Cobden. Social Committee; Chairman Mr Dunning; Vice-chairman Mr Gilbert;" Secretary ? Mrs Tickner; Committee Mesdames Armstrong, Cristall Lorcl Mackerell, Mayo Pock, Smith Wods and Messrs Armstrong Crista!i( Lord ; Missen, Mackerell ' Peck O'Brian, Foote j Lee and Wni :'en.. Mr G. Murray was unanimously re-elect-ed auditor ['or the enduing year. After the chairman had closed the meeting opportunity was taken by the Farewell and Welcome Home

Altogether '.Y.i boys were farewelled, 12 were welcomed and received a furlough presentation and ij were welcomed back and after official discharge had received their J substantial cash presentation. This same cash donation was .sent to the next of kin of one airman who paid] the supreme sacrifice. As the activities of this committee were purely social it was unanimously agreed that those members acting on the Social Committee of the Patriotic be asked to function as a committee for Farwell and Welcome Home work. All the members agreed to act in this, capacity. Votes of thanks Mere accorded officers and member.-; for their efforts and goodwill throughout the year by Mr Dunning on behalf of residents and by Mr Cristall, retiring chairman of the Social Committee while Mr Lord expressed appreciation of the work done by Mr Cristall during his term of office. |
