"V" DAY CELEBRATIONS
P. AND T. ARRANGEMENTS The following has been received from the Director-General, Post and Telegraph Department, in connection with the attendance of the Post Office on "V" Day and the succeeding day. The following departmental arrangements will apply in respcct of celebrations to be observed upon cessation of hostilities in Europe:— First Day Assuming official New Zealand announcement comes after office has opened for business: As soon as cessation of hostilities has been announced in New Zealand by the Acting Prime Minister arrangements are to be made to release all possible staff but generally the service to the public is to continue for at least one hour after the official New Zealand announcement. The current, traffic will be disposed of and the necessary mails will be despatched. Postmen are to complete one full delivery. Assuming official announcement is received before offices are open for business: Holiday is to apply as on second day and no postmen's delivery will be made. SScond Day Telephone and telegraph attendance and mail arrangements are to be tlie same as those observed on 2nd January last. (One outward mail closed and despatched at 7 a.m. postmen's delivery. Rural delivery service suspended. Telephone Exchange hours of attendance continuous otherwise the post office observes a eh* e holiday.
