ANNUAL MEETING OF UNION
CUP MATCH ARRANGEMENTS
The annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, took place recentty in Whakatane when authorised delegates were present from Rotorua Rangitaiki Tau.ranga Te Puke, Whakatane and Bay Referees' Association. The report and balance sheet Avere taken as read and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron: Mr F. J. Burt. Vice-Patron: Mr Les Clarke. President: Mr A. E. Spratt. Vice-presidents: The Presidents" of all Sub-Unions Messrs W. T, Burrett (Opotiki)* F. J. Burt (Rangitaiki) i F. Fisher (Tauranga), L. E. Dixon (Rotorua) W. S. Henderson (Whakatane). Hon. Secretary and Treasurer: W. S. Henderson. Hon. Auditor: Mr J. A. Ruddy. Hon. Solicitor: Mr G. Otley. Executive: President Secretary and Messrs Guiness (Tauranga) Burrett (Opotiki), Burt (Rangitaiki) Andrews (Rotorua) i Darvill (Whakatane) ? F. Burrett (Te Puke) . Maori Representatives: Messrs T. H. Anderson (Rangitaiki), A. C. Whikiriwhi (Rotorua). Selectors: Messrs Burrett T. H. Anderson A. E. Spratt. Delegates to N.Z.R.U: Messrs Guiness and Henderson. School Football: Decided that the outstanding amounts due to Galatea and Apanui be paid to Rotorua and Opotiki respectively .These two subunions to arrange purchase of school balls and distribution to Galatea and Apanui.
Hurunui Shield: Decided that the rater draw built on last year's draw be instituted this season. The draw of order of challenge reads as follows: Tauranga v Opo-tiki on Saturday June 30; Rangitaiki v holders on July 11; Whakatane v holders on July 28: Te Rotorua. Parata Cup: Decided that no Parata Cup be played this season. Shalfoon Shield: Decided to accept the generous offer by the relatives of the late Mr Geo. Shalfoon of a Shield to replace the existing Shalfoon Shield which is to be handed back to the Opotiki Rugby Union. The new Shield to be known as the ''Shalfoon Memorial Shield." The existing Shalfoon rules to apply. A motion by Mr Read, seconded by Mr Pickering "that any student attending school away from the district and who is home on holidays be ineligible to play in Shalfoon matches," was carried. The weight and age limit clause in Shalfoon Shield Rules read as under: Players under the age ol' 20 years there is no weight limit. Twenty years and over there is a weight limit of 12 stone. The executive to arrange the order of challenge as they come in.
Mcintosh Shield: Decided that the Shalfoon Shield rules, regarding weight and ages of players also apply to Mcintosh games. Further decided that the same gate arrangements and travelling grants as the Shalfoon should also apply to Mcintosh Shield matches. This means £2 10s from home gate to be paid to Bay Union who in turn wi'l pay 2s per mile one way, with a limit of £5 to challenging or travelling team. It was also recommended that sub-unions, should endeavour to find their junior club champions, earlier in the season than has been the practice. It was decided "that no sub-union permit any dub to transfer a player to another club for the purpose of playing in Mcintosh Shield games, subsequent to such club winning the junior championship." WHAKATANE UNION The following teams have nominated for the Whakatane Rugby Union's competitions: — Waimana 1 Senior and 1 Junior. '9 Taneatua, 1 Scnic# - . Poroporo, 1 Senior 1 Junior. Paroa 1 1 Junior. Whakatane, 1 Junior. The draw for the lirst round commencing on Saturday, May 14, is: Seniors: Taneatua v Waimana at Waimana; Poroporo v Paroa at Whakatane . Juniors: Waimana v Paroa at Whakatane; Poropox*o v Whakatane at Whakatane.
