WHAKATANE UNITED

AVERAGE FOR SEASON

Although the Whakatane United Cricket Club won the champions-hip during the season just completed it did not have such a successful season as last year. After Christmas unaccountably the batting slumped badly and the fielding which was very fair in the earlier part of the season became very lax and it is sale to say several matches were lost through poor work in this -department. Another disappointing aspect was that no young players of any talent or keenness were discovered. All High School boys who arc anxious to carry on with the game after leaving school or even while at school will be given every encouragement by the club in this rcspcet and the club solicits the support of the School Sports. Masters in their aim as unless the boys are encouraged at this stage cricket must decline in the future. The season's averages were: — BATTING
