AMATEUR RACE MEETING—WHY NOT?
A DISTRICT that can support an unbroken procession of nine separate Gymkhanas since Christmas and ensure the success of them all has surely established a claim to an unprecedented interest in ring events, in which a very fine standard has been reached. In all sincerity we put forward the suggestion that the existing license to hold an annual race meeting in this district should be made operative and that a properly run amateur meeting be held as a windup to the district Gymkhanas and its proceeds devoted to some worthy cause to be decided upon by the committee from time to time. In putting forth this suggestion we visualise a list of events open for amateur riders from the district, backed by a properly conducted totalisator but entirely free from any of those less desirable elements which cumber the professional meetings. How does the scheme appeal ?
