THE MOTOR TRADE
TRAINING OF APPRENTICES
ORGANISER VISITS THAMES
"The New Zealand Motor Trade Certifieatio'n Board has been set up by the New Zealand Motor Trade Federation to improve the standard of technical training of personnel engaged in the motor trade in New Zealand" said Mr Harold Murphy } organiser of the Motor Trade Certi-, fication Board ? when' giving an address in the St. James' Hall recently. He visited Thames to meet local members of the motor trade, and also representatives of local technical training establishments. Mr Murphy dealt with'the technical training of apprentices. He said that the first move to improve the status of the. personnel in the trade was a request from the Certification Board to the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association that in
J future the taking in of new appren-. tices be restricted to those who have completed two years' post-primary or alternatively to prospective apprentices who were pre- 1 pared to attend an extra night, a week at technical school to obtain this qualification. This would provide a standard of education which
the apprentice must have to enable him to proceed with the training he would receive at night classes.
In conjunction with the sound moving pictures were shown, and proved most interesting. A representative gathering was present, including employees of local foundries and garages.
