WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

WAIMANA MEMBERS DAY

The monthly meeting, of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held last Wednesday in the Waimana Tall ? Mrs Wylde presiding over a large attendance of members and several visitors. The singing of the W.I. song and "O God Our Help in Ages Past" opened the meeting. The remits lor the annual Council meeting were discussed and voted on. Delegates to attend the meeting are Mrs H. Wardlaw and Mrs W. Stevenson. Three new members were welcomed, Mrs Angus Mrs Max Wardlaw and Miss F. Woolliekl. This being the conclusion of the business and being members' day, Mrs King occupied the chair for the rest of the meeting and was assisted by Mrs who on behalf of presented Mrs Wylde (president) with a lovely bouquet of flowers and a small gift in appreciation of her work in the past, and to the Mrs H. Ward,law. } who has also done a great deal for the movement. Mrs King also was. presented with a bouquet of flowers and gilt from members in appreciation of her duties as press correspondent and pianist. All recipients suitably returned- their thanks. A humorous arranged by Mr.s'Hewitt was won by Mrs G. Mitchell. A live-minute sketch entitled "A Visit to the Doctor? >r was presented by three members of the Rebecca Lodge, Taneatua the players being Mrs Frost and Mrs Petitt Taneatua, and Mrs Wylde 9 J ■> Waimana. The players received a great ovation. Guessing the names of songs ( played by Miss Mavis Wardlaw was won by Mrs Mortenson. A lucky cup at afternoon tea was held 1 by Mrs. W. Addison and the lucky seat was occupied by Mrs Hewitt.

The results of the day's competitions were as follows: —Best double flower: Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs H. Wardlaw 2; Miss E. Wardlaw 3. Best single flower: Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs Fleming 2; Mrs Stevenson 3. Best vegetable: Mrs I. Savage 1; Mrs F. Bell 2; Mrs King 3. Thrift novelty: Mrs Gallagher Mrs T. Wardlaw 2;. Mrs Mortenson 3. Dried apples: Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs I. Savage 2. 3 jars of preserved fruits: Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs Wylde 2; Mrs Bell 3. At the conclusion of the meeting } Mrs King thanked the hostesses, judges- all who helped with the programme the National Anthem
