VICTORY CELEBRATIONS
TENTATIVE BOROUGH ARRANGEMENTS
SERVICE THE FOLLOWING DAY
Tentative arrangements for the local observance of an 'Armistice Day' in the near future marking the end of the war in Europe were discussed by the Whiakatane Borough Council its meeting last evening.
The Council decided that on the day following the declaration a special Service of Thanksgiving would be held at 11 a.m. at Pohaturoa Rock f or in the event of wet weather in the Winter Show Hall. The local clergy will be approached to make their arrangements and to have them in readiness. The Council recognised the fact that on the first news of the armistice an informal holiday would be declared by everyone f and it was considered that the day would be devoted to spontaneous rejoicing by the whole community irrespective of what arrangements were made. tn the e'vent of a lead from the Government as to a set programme of formalities, there will be further notification given out to the public countermanding if necessary the present arrangements.
