GRANDMOTHER'S DERBY
NOVEL DISTRICT EFFFORT
The Edgecumbe Patriotic Committee has organised a novel means of raising funds for its very large allocation—the highest in the County with the exception of that of the Whakatane Borough.
On a previous occasion this committee showed its originality by introducing a Baby Competition by means oi' which the Patriotic Quota was considerably assisted. Now a Grandmother's Derby is to be run. Four Grandmothers representative of the Armed Sharemilkers and Industries have been chosen and cach Grandmother has a strbng committee organising various functions. Tlie. Grandmothers and their respective colours are as follows: — Mrs W. Goldsmith, Sm\ representing The Armed Services —Blue; Mrs I. Campbell representing the Sharemilkers —Orange; Mrs A. Marx representing the Farmers —Red; .Mrs J. Rutherford representing the'industries —Green. The Derby will be concluded by a function —the details of which will be published later —on the King's Birthday (June 4th) and finally by a Grand Derby Bali at the Winter Show Buildings in the evening.
