THE habit of certain horsemen (Maoris are the main offenders) of riding their unshod horses at a canter oyer rough bituminised roads in this town is a scandal which ought to be checked by the severest means. Horses obviously sore-footed and lame are frequently seen in the borough ridden by thoughtless youths or children in the middle of the sealed surface. If these young irresponsibles fail to realise the suffering they are inflicting 9n their mounts it is high time they were made to realise it.
