EXPORT MEAT
SEASON'S TOTAL IMPROVING
The details of export killings of meat prepared by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board show the position of the present season up to 17th March. As the nearest compilation of the returns last season was to 11th March the statistics of the two sea--1 sons arc not on this occasion strictly comparable, but there is adequate evidence that this season's lag in killings of lambs and sheep due to retention of stock on the farms for the purpose of increasing the weight is now being overtaken. Export killings at New Zealand Meat Works to March 17 y with the figures to March ll t 1944, in parentheses were as follows: — North Island Lambs 4,195.204 (4 f 114,24G) Wethers 343,940 ( 229 702) Ewes 833 j 'l42 ( 881,781) South Island Lambs 2/228,529 (2,203,033) Wethers ' 18/2GB ( ' 12,032) Ewes 210,925 ( 144,535) Dominion totlas are:— Lambs (c/cs) 6,423,733 (0,317,279) Wethers ( 242*334) Ewes 1,044,607 (1,026^310) Beef (qrs) ' 176,103 (' ! The Board's report from its supervising graders continue to support the view that in general the feed conditions for stock are good, and winter prospects satisfactory. "Feed conditions for the coming months seems assured," states the report on Taranaki and Wairarapa districts and the Otago and Southland reports again refer to the abundance of feed. Similar indications are given regarding most other districts.
