WEDDING BELLS

OATESt —TIPPER

A pretty wedding of widespread local interest took place in St. George's Anglican Church last Wednesday afternoon when Beryl Grace only daughter of Mr and Mrs H. C. Tipper of Awakeri, was married to Alexander Miisom elder son of Mrs and the late Mr P. Oates of Carterton. The Rev. J. C. J. Wilson performed the ceremony whilst Mrs Stewart pres'ided at the organ. The bride who was escorted by her father made a charming picture in a full-length bridal gown of cream georgette over taffeta, the corsage of which was ruched to a deep waist-line. Long puffed sleeves reached to the wrists while her 2 beautiful long veil of embroidered sillc net fell to form a short train. She carried a bouquet of white autumn flowers. In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss M. McLean (Carterton) and Miss Betty Oates (sister of the bridegroom) who wore becoming frocks; of coral pink and pale blue georgette. Both wore pretty floral head-dresses of pink and blue flowers elbow-length mittens and carried toning .bouquets of seasonal flowers. Little Peggy Wiggins in a Victorian dress of shell ptink made a very charming flower girl. In attendance as best man was Mr P. B. Preston while Mr Peter Tipper (brother of the bride) acted as groomsman, After the ceremony the reception took place in the Masonic Hall where .some eighty guests gathered to do honour to the young couple. Mrs Tipper received her guests in a smart ensemble of rust coloured material with hat and posy to tone, Mrs Oates wore, navy blue with blending accessories. Both carried posies of pink flowers. The duties of toastmaster were ably performed by Mr C. Harding who proposed the Loyal toast. The toast list was then honoured as under: 'The Bride and Groom Mr J. W. Crang Sn. and the Bridegroom; 'The Bridesmaids and Flower Girl' the Bridegroom and the Best Man; 'The Bride's Parents' Mr B. Grace and Mr H. C. Tipper; 'The Bridegroom's Mother' Fit. Sgt. Ross and Mr G. Vanstone; 'Absent Friends' Mr Vanstone; 'The Visitors' Mr H. C. Tipper and Mr J. R. Ryde. Mr and Mrs Oates who left later on their honeymoon will take up their future residence in the Carterton district.
