CARELESS DRIVERS
NEW TARSEALING DAMAGED During the Easter week-enmany families from Whakatane spent, the days at Ohope and consequently, the Hillcrest road was subjected to a greater use than usual. This section, which is at present in the process of being tarsealed is ready for the third and final coating, but a certain section of inconsiderate motorists over the week-end did little to improve the surface. Despite warning notices restricting speed to 15 m.p.h. and constant patrolling, a number of vehicles paid absolutely no attention: and descended at their usual rate, braking round every corner with complete disregard for the. work in hand. Drivers ascending were no less thoughtless. In one instance a car stopped on the grade,, and when il started off again one of the rear wheels gouged a tread mark along the road for a distance of 20 feet. Such a practice is not only exasperating but also detrimental to the interests of all motorists including the offenders, to whose advantage it is, as road users., to have the best possible highways.
