MEDICAL SUPPLIES

HELD BY E.P.S. AUTHORITIES

QUESTION OF DISPOSAL

In answer to an enquiry from the New Zealand Red Cross SoEastern Bay of Plenty the Whakatane County Council decided to make over to that organisation stocks of flannel and other perishable material held by it as the controlling E.P.S. authority in the County.

The Red Cross Society pointed out that-there was still a supply of flannel in the stores which was only deteriorating and could be turned to better purpose by being made up into garments for the relief of distress. This the Society would be prepared to do if the material was handed over. The County Clerk reported that in addition to the above the Council J could give consideration of conferring with Dr. Appleby as. to the advisability of donating to the hospital doctors' supplies as distinct from first aid supplies held at E.P.S. medical centres. "Just who do these supplies belong to now?" queried Cr Wardlaw. "Who has control of them in the outlying districts. I have heard that they have all been handed over to the Red Cross.." The chairman (Mr J. L. Burnett) said that there had been no variation of ownership. The supplies were still the property of the E.P.S. organisation and might still prove useful. He suggested that the first aid appliances should remain in the various depots, but that any material which could be utilised before it perished or became useless should be. handed over. The council decided that where flannel and other such like material is held by E.P.S. medical committees and the local Red Cross Committee does not desire -to use such, that such be donated to the Eastern Bay of Plenty Red Cross Society to be made into "relief, of distress garments," —that E.P.S. supplies for use only by doctors as distinct from E.P.S. first aid supplies held in E.P.S. centres, be sent to hospital if Dr. Appleby, the Chief Medical Warden so recommends.
