again to Badeley who bowled well in the second 'innings, and finally to the team as a Avhole for displaying a dogged spirit and line determination when things looked hopeless at one stage ol' Poverty Bay's first innings and during most of the length of Bay of Plenty's first innings. e For Poverty Bay Bow's risky but y forceful innings of 75 and Eraser's n workmanlike innings of 45 were r good performances. Bridge showed y. in the second innings that he could a have troubled Bay of Plenty in the first innings. Poverty Bay tried up to eight bowlers the best of whom were Jones and Barbour and Dow, but neither of these appeared to pos- ' sess sufficient fire or dash to get on top and stay there. The weather was fine and hot. The a turf one ? commenced * to break up and crumble on the S second day and then became very 0 lively.
