POPULAR BABY SHOW

Oa Thursday, March 22, a very Kuecessf'ul garden party organised by the Whakatane Plunket Society Committee, was held at the resi-» der-ce of Mrs F. Douglas Street. . The weather was pcrfect > and despite the fact that, owing to rain the event had had to be postponed from the previous Thursday a large, number of people attended. Both tlie cake and produce stalls were well patronised and their plentiful stocks were quickly disposed of. Various games and competitions were held the results of which were as under: — Iced cake: Mrs Rytde. Dinner: Mrs Cox. Sponge: Mrs Cox. Peas in bottle: Mrs H. Armstrong. Clock golf: Mrs Graham. Gate competition No. 64 not claimed . Home-made sweets: Brian Mollgaard. Taipo: Mrs Cairns. As usual the Baby Contest was a verj- popular event, and the judge Sister Bremner found it very difficult to make a decision. The final selections were as follows:— One to six months: Diana Jessop Salonika Street. Six to 12 months: Pamela Armstrong Hillcrest. One to 18 months: Baby Steel ? Thornton Road. 18 months to 4 years: Lynne Barry ■ Hillcrest, The committee wishes to thank all those who contributed to the success of the Garden Party, particularly Mrs Prideaux for the use of her grounds. The takings for the day amounted to £25 17s 3d.
