CANCER CAMPAIGN

Sir ( —We would draw your attention to the fact that during March the Department is. conducting a campaign against cancer. By a series of advertisements and broadcast talks relevant information about the; cancer problem as it affects New Zealand is being presented to the and we would appreciate any. support you may care to give to this campaign in your editorial or news columns. Cancer is second only to diseases Cancer is second only to diseases of the heart as the cause of death in this proper education of the public is essential if any attack is to be eilective. Through the media mentioned above, we arc endeavours ing to educate the public. The cam, paign will not stop there. At a suitable interval we will return to it. Mention is made in one of the advertisements of the cancer clinics at the four centres. These clinics meet once a "week at the stated times, and a panel of doctors and specialists, comprising the best professional examine patients and prescribe the treatment which they regard as most effective to the individual. It is an admirable service. As we stress in our advertisements sufficiently early attention to cancer will guarantee a cure and it is important that people should be encouraged to check lip without delay on any suspicions they may have. These clinics enable them to check up thoroughly and confidentially. Thanking you in anticipation of your co-operation. Yours etc. H. B. TURBOTT Director i Division of School Hygiene. (K. B. 'From a SchooLboys Diary' (alleged). Your script bore no sigand is therefore not. acceptable even in our correspondence column. Apart from this omission f the obvious intent of slandering a member of the local teaching staff makes this innocent guise equally obnoxious and totally unsuited for publishing, Ed.)
