PIPING OF WATER

SUPPLY AT CEMETERY

Whether or not tlie water I'rom the 200 gallon tank situated at the Hill Cemetery should be piped closer to the actual cemetery itself lhan it is at present was a question which created some discussion, at the. last meeting of the Whakaianc Borough Council held on Monday evening, introducing the matter. Cr Shaplcy slated that the question had already been before, the Works- Committee which had laiied to agree.

Speaking of the water he said that the only supply available was contained in a 200 gallon tank which was not in the cemetery pro-i pei\ but was situated some distance away. This meant that visitors wishing to obtain water were forced to walk through long grass- to reach the tap. As the Council had agreed to spend something in the neighbourhood of £80 on the cemetery he saw no reason why a few extra pounds should not be spent to bring the water within the boundary. A pump had been suggested but this would be in the nature of an eppensive undertaking. The water was ' needed, and he assured the Council that the quantity contained in the tank would merit its piping.

The Mayor: The point is that it is only three and a half chains to the tank and the total supply is only 200 gallons. If the Avatef were piped to a tap .closer, it is possible, that it "might be left without being turned off properly and all the water would be wasted. Cr Shapley: That is quite corrcct but as. far as that goes it may be left on anyway. It is necessary to pipe the water and when the tank is empty then we can at least say we have done our best. As it is we have done nothing. The Council agreed that the Works Committee should inspect the site.
