Dear Sir.

ing to sell their souls and the rights of all future generations if they could do so. Can anyone say that a proper and complete survey has ever been made of the coast routes and if so who here has seen the plans and the estimates? I know thati a few planes flew back and forth a while ago and that the late Mr G. Rand made some sort of a survey of a tunnel but only as h e told me } "where lie was tojd to make it." I understand Mr Semple rejected the tunnel scheme on the score of expense but no one lias told us as far as I know how much more the coast road would cost than the Maraetotara road. In my humble opinion initial cost should not come into the. question. What the country needs for its State highways is the most the safest and the most comfortable road and no other. Yours etc.,, J. PEARSON.
