"WORLD OF PLENTY"

A FILM ABOUT PRODUCTION

SCREENING AT EDGKCUMBE

It was stated in a recent issue of the. New Zealand "Listener" that "It was recently r( .p or Ye<T that commercial picture theatres in Sydney "had refused to show the Bi'itish Ministry of Information documentary film '"World of Plenty." In New Zealand the pfetu.re has been shown to< special groups but not to the general public. It has been suggested that "'World of Plenty" is too radical in its political implications. Yet it was produced by the British Ministry of Information and introduces in stopport of its argument such reputable figures as President Roosevelt Loid Sir John Orr, Sir John Russell, f Lord Hordcr and Dr. Wellington Koo. This is an outstanding example of the documentary film—a film which audiences in this country have tooi often been denied the' right of seeing. Food is the. subject of the film— the world strategy of food } how it is grown, how it is harvested how it. is how it is eaten. In peace or says the commentator, food is man's Security No. 1. The price of food may change but its worth in human needs is always the same. One acre of wheat fills only just so many hungry whether the price be high or low. Put all the money you can earn on the counter —it can't buy more than the soil can give." Throughout emotional effect is gained by the juxtaposition of scencs of poverty and plenty: of people unemployed and starving during the depression while in other places, food is destroyed to keep the price of it up. The. New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association Limited which is to give screenings- of this film throughout the country, has for thirteen years past introduced to producers many interesting fi?ms but this new film "World of Plenty" is of greater interest than any shown previously, and we know of no subject, that could be of greater importance to the farmers of this country.

"World of Plenty" is to be screened at the next meeting of suppliers to the Rangitaiki Plains Bobby Ca:if Pool which is to be held in Bell's. Hall Edgecumbe } on Matfch. 2 at 7.30 p.m. The film will be shown at the conclusion o£ the adM dress to be given by Mr representative of- the P.M.A. As> is customary with P.M.A. educational facilities the fdm is to be screened entirely free of charge and women and children, are also cordially invited. A screening will also take place at Taneatua on March 1.
