"According to German radio reports, the Japanese have been forced to wear austerity clothing—a national uniform for men and utility kimonos, for women. The men are said to have a khaki-green uniform and cap of European cut while felt hats and ties are no longer worn and shirts o .j and socks are only available in a few qualities. Staple fibre a locally produced, has taken the. place of the wool previously imported from Australia South Africa and South Ame j rica. For the women there are only simple kimonos and three types of European dress—for street or office for housework, and for sport."
