A social event of considerable interest to Galatea-Murupara resi-. dents wa& held at Whirinaki Hall } Murupara, on Friday evening, February 9 last when residents and; friends gathered in force at a farewell dance organised by the local Farewell and Welcome Home Committee in honour of L.A.C. Jack Hickey who leaves shortly to continue. Air Force training overseas. In making a presentation to L.A.C. Hickey the Chairman of the Committee/ Mr H. saidnhat although the guest of the evening was to go overseas! to complete his Air Force training, he trusted he wouldt find plenty of adventure and have an interesting time as well. On. liehalf of all present he wished Mr Hickey a speedy and safe, return. A similar presentation was made on behalf otJVlaori residents of the district by Mr I. Matekuare. L.A.C. Hiekey brieily replied to botlij speeches'. During the evening a Monte Carlo Waltz contest was won by Mrs H. Nuku and her partner Mr T. Mollis Mrs E. A. Murrell. of was M-C. and music for dancing was supplied by the Lei Boys' Orchestra. ...

RANGITAHI SCHOOL COMMITTEE A general meeting of parents and: residents interested in the Rangitahi Native School, Murupara, waa held at the school on Feb-, ruary 9 :ast. There was a fair*" attendance. Committee members for the year ware elected as follows:— Maori members: Messrs J. Turanga (re-elected chairman) P. Paul, M. Ranui F. Twisty H. Bird and H. Nuku. Pakeha members: Messrs W. S. Wilson, C. Newton, G. Kihzett and N. C.' Benson. The retiring secretary Mr W. S. Wilson, who was re elcc'ted was complimented on the able manner in which the school books had been kept during his last term of office.
