CASE OF TRESPASS
LOCAL HOSPITAL GROUNDS
CAUTIONARY FINE IMPOSED
Charged with trespassing on the grounds of the Whakatane Public on the night of January 10 last, Eric William Tennant pleaded guilty in the Whakatane Court yesterday before Messrs J. King and G. A. Brabant J.P.s.
Sergeant Farrell stated that on the night in question accused was noticed in the grounds by one of the nurses at 2.45 a.m., and the matron was notified. The policc were called and a search was instituted. Accused was seen again and was later arrested in Landing Road in an intoxicated condition. He was apparently searching for his bicycle which he had actually left in the vicinity. Accused had been painting at the hospital a lew dttys previously and was under the impression that he had left his cycle in the place where he usually did when working there. The place where he was first seen was near to that particular spot. Tennant was a returned soldier with two years service in the Islands to his credit. He bore an excellent character and was due to return to camp lor another period of overseas service shortly.
A fine of £3 was- inllicted
