CANNOT MEET DEMAND
WINE SHORTAGE IN AUSTRALIA.
Australian vitieultuirists, who IS* months ago were clamouring for increased freight* space' to' capture a greater share of the British wine now lament that they can- , not keep pace with" the local demand? and unless a greater acreage is placed under grapes Australia will drink itself crnt of wines before J long. Shortage of Beer and spirits has led to increased consumption of wine in Australia, particularly bottled wines that the family man now takes home for his table, in place of beer. Last year €00 gallons of wine were consumed. That was more than double pre-war consumption. Hotelkeepers' inquiries for wines are 300 times greater, tftsun before the war.
