LOCAL MAN HONOURED
PRESENTED TO PRINCESS
Some time ago a report appeared in the Beacon concerning a local man Trevor Burt ; of Matata, who was presented to Princess Elizabeth on the occasion of the opening ol the Sailors.' Home at Aberdeen. Trevor is at present with the New Zealand Navy. A further report of. this has come to hand in the form of an extract from the 'Bulletin and Scots printed in Glasgow. It states: —
'Cine cameras' whirred and • batteries of arc-lights were trained on Princess Elizabeth when she performed her lirst public engagement alone in the North of Scotland yesterday. Her Royal Highness opened a reconstructed Sailors' Home at Mearns Aberdeen. She looked perfectly composed yet full of lively interest in her surroundings.
"It will be a great day when I write home to Mum about this," said Telegraphist Trevor Burt New Zealand Navy, alter the Princess had spoken to him outside the building.
Her Royal Highness asked Burt how long was his leave in Aberdeen. "Three months" he stammered, quickly corecting it to "Three weeks " as he saw the Princess smile and lo'ok a little incredulous.'
