TWO POPULAR EVENTS

Two dances were held over the Aveek-end in connection with the Queen Carnival at present being staged by the Thornton Victory feymkhana both being in support of the R.S.A. Queen } Miss J,.Hazel Cave. The Captain's Cabin Hall at Ohope was tlie scene of the one held last Thursday evening where a good \«rowd turned out to support the efMusic was supplied by Messrs .IHorace Waite and Wallie Lysaght "while Mr Harry Mole filled the posi- * tion of M.C. Enjoyable extras, were .also piayed by Jack Jones anji Jerry .Haeusler and' Jean and Hugh Howat. Mr Waite once again 'Hilled the of entertainer as well as and supplied a humorous i-sketch and an interlude on the piano. The free use of the hall took the form of a /very acceptable donation * i'romi Mrs. Wiggi«ns. A. further dance was held on Moil- > day evening at the Caledonian Hall and proved to be. the central, attrac-. *tion for Anniversary holiday makers. The Premier Band was the -source of rhythm but owing to a . succession of. blowouts (in the tyres, ; we mean) on the way in, its arrival was somewhat belated. Dancing "was not. at a standstill for till the time of their arrival, - music was supplied by Miss Nola iWest at the piano. gL, Once again Mr Harry Mole was; of Ceremonies and kept the Hoor well filled. Two competitions j opened and "drawn during the eveni<ng s proved to be very popular. The winners •of these were Mr B. Ashby and Miss M. Cave. Mr and Mrs E. J. Tong ~were successful in the Monte Carlo. The dances run in. the connection with the carnival have all so far, il>een very well and if the present public interest is maintained the whole, effort should urove * •> very successful.
