CLOSING OF GAMP As many farmers still have hay to saA r e, the Primary Production Council have made arrangements Avith the Army to extend the camp closing date until Friday the 9th instant. When arrangements Avere first made to establish a camp at Matata for harvesting labour it Avas antici- > pated the peak demand would be early in January and Avould diminish towards the end of. the. month Avhen the camp would be closed. HoAvever this year, conditions have been adverse and not only prolonged haymaking conditions, but. have caused considerable loss of winter fodder to sofne farmers, so this extension of time will give an opportunity to secure, a second cut. During the last fortnight full advantage has been taken of the soldiers service and they have completed their work in a \ r ery satisfactory manner. At present there are thirty-two men aA'ailable aiul it is hoped their assistance will be fully utilised until the closing date. Their next operations will be to assist the South Iflanu farmers with the grain where "some 500 men are required. |
