BROADCASTING STATION
NEEDED IN THE BAY SUGGESTED WHAKATANE SITE Pointing out that 'reception' in the Bay of Plenty was anything but good Mr Fred Abbott at the meeting of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce last Thursday evening suggested that application should be made to the Minister of Broadcasting urging that a 'B' station should be established in Whakatane, Enlarging upon his suggestion he stressed tlie fact that Whakatane was ccntralljr situated for the Bay, and that the area was about the only one left which was not adequately covered in the existing network. Other speakers agreed that the Bay at the present time had but a poor radio coverage, and that the establishment of a new station at Whakatane a& the most central point Avas a progressive move which would be Avidely appreciated. The meeting decided to back the suggestion solidly and to write away suggesting a new broadcasting unit should be established here.
