NAVAL CAT'S RECORD

JOCK TWIGG AT DOVER Jock Twigg, the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Des Twigg, of Te who sailed with the First Echelon, ay ho was wounded while serving with the forces in Greece, and later at El Alamein writes from Dover, where he is now on the staff of the Reception Group for repatriated prisoners of war. We gave a party on Friday afternoon to the children of Dover. Five came from each school in the area. They had to be between the ages of five and eight and not likely to be getting much entertainment for Christmas. Well three bus loads :) ' amounting to just on three hundred, turned up. No mothers allowed. Did we have an exhausting time! While we were waiting for them all to turn up and before we got cracking with a grand march, it was : "Gimme a piggy back cockfight mister." "I want you to swing me." However a great time was, had by all. Santa arrived and gave them each a trifling present and there was lots to eat and plenty of fizz. Do you realise that when the war started the oldest of those kids was three: that the five and six .year old had never before seen a Christmas or Santa, or a lighted street; that for the last five years they have lived in caves and shelters ? You can imagine how easy they were to entertain. It was all new to them and .strangely, they were as obedient as little sheep. We sang Christmas carols at the end and I was so near tears I had to rush off. The poor pathetic little souls. We are having Christmas, carols at 9.30 : so I'd better be on my way. ci
