NO COMPLAINTS

HOSPITAL VISITING COMMITTEE

REPORT TO BOARD

Reporting on his visit to the hospital with Mr J. P. Mr J. Mullins at the Whakatane Hospital Board meeting yesterday said that though unannounced, they had found everybody perfectly contented and there were no complaints. Several of the patients who had experienced treatment in other hospi-> tals declared that Whakatane compared very favourably with other districts. Mr Mullins also recorded his pleasure at being present at the hospital on Christmas morning and lie considered that the Board should dispatch a letter of thanks and appreciation to the doctor a matron and staff for their endeavours to brighten up the hospital during the festive period. Mr McGougan backed . up the speaker in this respect and said he was agreeably surprised at the whole ceremony. Everybody appeared happy and there was no doubt that, it was a grand thing for the patients. He did not think the Board as a whole realised j;ust what was done by the nursing staff at Christmas time and urged that all members should make a point of being present in future. Mr McCready said that while he agreed with the sentiments expressed about the Christmas fare he considered it a very strange thing that the hospital at that time should be nearly empty. He could only hope they could have Christmas every week when the burden would not be so heavy on the ratepayers. It was obvious that many patients were sent home for Christmas and didn't return. ' Mr McGougan said that such a position was quite understandable. It was natural that the doctor would allow as many as possible who could make the journey, to go home for Christmas. It was the correct thing to do. At the same time he was not in a position to agree with Cr McCready's contention. The next visiting committee was then appointed in the persons of Messrs McGougan and Mitchell.
