Mr E. B. Manager of the Whakatane Paper Mills, has returned home after a business tour of the u;s. Mr and Mrs E. G. Snelling of Te Aroha, returned home earlier in the week after spending the holidays at Oliope. Mrs O. M. Bailey and party of the staff of 2ZB Commercial Broadcasting Station Wellington, are enjoying a holiday at Ohope Beach. The Mayor and Mayoress of WhaMr and Mrs B. S. Barry, with their two daughters are spending the latter part of their Christmas vacation in Auckland.

Lieut. Commander and Mrs J. G. Cliff-McCulloch after an absence of five years in the Old Country,, have now returned to Whakatane. A special Avelcome home evening to Lieut. Commander McCulloch who has now retired permanently from the Royal Navy 4 took place in the Whakatane Club Rooms last Saturday evening } when speakers from town and country joined in welcoming the guest of the occasion back to his home town.

Word has been received by Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., that on Friday ? January 19, the Minister of Lands and Hon. F. K. will be visiting Whakatane. The official party will arrive on Thursday night and will remain in this centre for Friday and Friday night. All who may desire to make any representations to the Minister are advised to contact Mr W. Sullivan at once in order to , complete the schedule of arrangements.

Members of the staff of the Wliakatane Borough Council m6t in happy mood on Tuesday afternoon last to honour and congratulate the popular member of the Office Staff > Miss Pat Francis, on the attainment of the majority. At the conclusion of afternoon tea, tastefully provided by Mrs the Town Clerk, on behalf of the Borough presented Miss Francis with a beautiful wall mirror whereafter Mr LyX saght ? Electrical Engineer, with appropriate remarks presented her with '"The key of the Door" and "The Freedom of the City."
