ANOTHER YEAR OF PROGRESS
ANNUAL MEETING HELD
"I feel that I can safely say that the past year has been a successful one in which we have departed l from our routine in order to initiate several progressive measures whereby we can still further establish our Society and increase our memsaid Mr W. J. Simons, chief of the Whakatane Caledonian at the annual . meeting held' last Thursday evening!. Mr Simons jvent on to refer to the formation of the Young People's Club, and the progress of the Junior Pipe Band, and added that in spite of. war restrictions the Society had been more than able to hold its own. After paying £100 for the repainting of the hall there was still the sum of £80 in the Bank, though the revenue from the I'nglesides had dropped considerably during the year. Dealing with the Young People's Club he said that this organisation was not only an asset, to the.* Society, but it commended itself very strongly to the community as a whole. He thanked Messrs Thomas and Hurst for their activities in this' and complimented them on the fact that the membership now totalled 80. The difficulty of meeting so near to the holidays was mentioned by several speakers and it was formally accepted on notice of motion by Mr C. F. Thomas, that the incoming executive take steps to amend the constitution at a special meeting, whereby it will be possible to hold the annual meeting in October } and also to bring the existing rules up to date in other respects. The election of officers resulted as under: — Patron: Mr J. Grant. Chief: Mr W.J. Simons. Chieftains: Messrs W. G. Howat and C. F. Thomas. Secretary: Mr W. G. C. Hursit.. Assistant Secretary: Mr S. J. Mo-> Kenzie. Treasurer: Mrs M. Craig. Auditor: Mr Andrew Nicol. Executive: Messrs K. Fergusson, B. Parker and Mesdames J. Martin and J. King. Pipe Major: Mr H. D. Paterson. Social Committee: Mesdames J. King Sen.,, J. King, Jun,, C. F. Thimas "Raymond, K. Fergusson, Misses Mi. Howat, M. Raymond. Doorkeeper: Mr Fergusson Sen. Custodian: Mrs, J. King. Reports on the Craigellachie Scout Troop and the Pipe Band were submitted by Messrs C. F.'Thomas and K. Fergusson, respectively. The former mentioned the fact that the Troop had acquitted itself well at the recent Tauranga Rally, whilst, the latter mentioned the. steady decline of the Senior Band and the growing efficiency of the Junior organisation. The Chief paid a warm tribute to the men responsible for the. training of the boys in both categories, mentioning Messrs C. F. W. H. D. Paterson and W. Howat, Jun. A special committee to run a Hallo'een evening next November was set up as follows: Messrs C. Kingsley-Smith, W. Hurst, J. W. Simons H. t>! Paterson, and Mrs •? King Sen. The meeting concluded with a warm vote of thanks, to Chief Simons and to Mrs Simons for their untiring efforts on behalf, of the Society throughout the year.
