POWER NEXT YEAR
Advice from the Electricity Controller Mr F. T. M. Kissell to 5 5' power supply authorities is that no increase in the allocation of electric power will be made available in January and February. From March an increase of 1% P er cent will be permitted. The allocations will be. based on the unit consumption of authorities in the corresponding weeks of either 1944 or 1943 i? whichever consumption iigure is the higher. The position will be reviewed
in April
The controller states that an increase of 2 per cent in unit con-< sumption was budgeted for in April last, but between then and November the actual increase was 6 per cent above the figure for the ponding period of 1943. That the position was met was entirely due to the exceptional hydraulic conditions in the hydro-stations. The flow of water at Waikaremoana and Arapuni for the past three years was above the average of tlie past
22 years,,
Based on the expectation of an increase in the installed generate ing capacity to 388 000 kilowatts by early next year, of average hydraulic conditions and of full supplies of coal being available to keep the steam stations running reasonably to capacity, it is expected that the supply of power available for 1945 should be the total units supplied in 1944 a plus about 1% per cent,.
