WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT WAIMANA

The monthly meeting of the Waimana Nukuhou Women's Institute, was held in the Waimana Hall recently. There was a good attendance of members present, and Mrs Wylde presided. The singing of the lnsti-* tute song opened the. meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and correspondence dealt with. It was. decided to entertain the children of the district at an afternoon tea party to be held ill the hall on Friday 10. A greatly enjoyed "Mime" was staged by members of the Drama Circle after which Mrs H. Wardlaw on behalf of the Drama Circle members asked Mrs J. Mitchell to accept' a gift as an appreciation of tlie large amount of work she had put into producing the plays, sketches etc. which the Circle had stag - ed at several times (during the past year. Mrs. Mitchell thanked Mrs Wardlaw and all for the gift., which was greatly' appreciated. The speaker stated it had been a pleasure to work with the players, as without their co-operation she could not do much. The roll call was the exchange of Christmas gifts, which was a most pleasant and enjoyed portion of the programme. A competition, guessing the names of Carols, which were played by Mrs King, was won by Mrs Stevenson. The. competitions for the day were as. follows-: Best double flower, Mrs Stevenson 1; Mrs. F. Bell 2; Mrs Wylde 3. Best single Mrs Mitchell 1; Mrs Bell 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. Best vase of sweet peas. Mrs Bell 1; Mrs N. Clark 2. Best vegetable, Mrs Hewitt (cabbage) 1; Mrs Bell (green peas) 2; Mrs Stansbury (lettuce) 3. Best six pods of green peas, Mrs Bell 1; Mrs Boynton 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. Jar mincemeat, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs Bell 2. Afternoon tea was servevl by the hostesses after which the president thanked all members for their cooperation during the past year and wished all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The singing of the National Anthem terminated the meeting.
