WHAKATANE MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institute was held in the Methodist Hall on Tuesday [ December when Mrs V. Stewart , presided over a good attendance. ol' members. The meeting opened with tlie institute song and the Aspirations were read by ail the, members, Mrs Stewart read out the rules pertaining to the Robert Young i Cnp s and it was decided that the [ Institute should enter for the com- ) petition. Two ne.w members were welcomed Mrs Rushworth and Mrs ; Oxenham, and apologies were re- ; ceivcd from several members. The Golden Thread talk on "Early Whakatanc" was given by Mrs L. ; Sisam and was followed with much ■ interest. The Roll ("all "M 3' Favpur- ■ ite Song" was readily responded to. A reading was given by Mrs Lysaght ■ on the stories of popular , which was much enjoyed. The competition in which members wore 1 something to represent a song was won by Mrs Moran. Community [ singing of Christmas carols proved [ to be very popular. « Afternoon tea was served by the followed by the exchange of Christmas gilts. Mrs Stewart wished all the members the compli-* ments of the -season and the singing of the. National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.
